Normally I find watching the Network Ten programme Shark Tank great entertainment, but recently I had a "throw something at the TV" moment while watching the sharks' response to a pitch by the family owners of Italian restaurant chain Tommy Sugo. The brothers' "crime" was that one of their key suppliers was their father-in-law. The sharks fell over themselves to point out the dangers of such an arrangement...god forbid the brother's marriage should fail, as it could jeopardise production! Only Janine Allis (eventually) saw the light and made an offer, perhaps realising that family arrangements can actually strengthen a business rather than weaken it....
