The key challenges outlined by 3 of the major retail associations won't come as a surprise to most retailers. The key issue is how to tackle the issues and in what order. Retail leaders need to ensure they take sufficient time out from the day to day operations to provide some clear head space to focus on the 4 key pillars of a successful business being strategy, people, process and financial. Mid-size retailers, in particular, who may not have this expertise in-house need to consider how they can leverage knowledge externally to ensure they are best in class.
