My father used to tell the story that when he joined low-cost UK-based airline EasyJet back in its early days, founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou used to make all meetings as standing rather than sitting. This meant that meetings were far quicker as people got to the point!
But not remaining seated during meetings or working at stand-up desks are also becoming more common as the health risks of a sedentary work environment become more widely discussed and addressed.
What are you doing to create a healthy working environment for your people?
Guidelines published today in the British Journal of Sports Medicine urge employers change their workplace culture and social norms around the sedentary office. It recommends desk-based office workers spend at least two hours of their working day standing or moving, and to gradually progress to four hours.
